KEEP ON ROLLIN’

If you grew up in the 1980’s lie I did, then you may have been a fan of REO Speedwagon, and their hit song of the same name…

Have you read the book: “The Slight Edge”?

If not, then you SHOULD!

Not only is it eye-opening, but it is chock-full of stories that evolve into metaphors for conveying important messages that strike to the heart of issues that face us all, each and every day
The “slight edge is about doing the small things – things that may not seem to matter very much at the time, but that over time will make all the difference in the world!
Whether that difference is POSITIVE or NEGATIVE, however, will be completely up to YOU…

Here is the key – the decisions that you make on a daily basis will have COMPOUNDING EFFECTS on the rest of your life, for either good or ill…

Let’s look at the world of physical fitness, for example – something that will be easy for you to visualize – such as RUNNING…

Assume that you have decided, New-Year’s-Eve-Resolution-style, that you will start running ½-mile per day in order to get yourself back into “beach shape” by summer…

The act of running that ½-mile each day is easy to do (once you get past the sore muscle barrier), but it is just as easy NOT to do…

Herein lies your dilemma – if you do NOT run on a particular day, are you going to INSTANTLY gain more weight and/or drop dead from a heart-attack?
NO – of course not…

But once you find an excuse to NOT run on that 1st day, then each successive day on which you decide not to run becomes that much easier to reconcile within your own mind…
And if you are at all like ME, then you have already experienced the TRUTH in that statement…

On the flip side – if you bite the bullet and force yourself (and you very well may HAVE to, the first few weeks) to run that ½-mile each and every day, as you had originally decided, then your daily efforts will eventually compound into you achieving your desired level of fitness!

And you can carry over this example into ANY area of your life…

Be aware, however, that seeking positive results in any new endeavor requires a level of FAITH in yourself and your abilities

The “slight edge” encompasses those “little things” – those seemingly (at the time) insignificant decisions – you make every day that COMPOUND ON ONE ANOTHER as you progress through Life…
Be careful, though – like I said before, your daily decisions can compound either POSITIVELY or NEGATIVELY…

The god news is that only YOU have the power to determine in which direction your life will go – if you are brave enough to strike out against the tide and CONSISTENTLY do those things that most people are simply unwilling to do – then you WILL know success!

The Most Dangerous Phrase That You Can Speak

That title should start your mind spinning

There are SO MANY potentially dangerous phrases in the human language that it may be difficult to narrow it down to just 1, but when I say “Most Dangerous” I am referring to the phrase’s ability to halt your progress – its ability to stop you in your tracks, when it comes to striving towards gaining new knowledge and abilities…

If you internally embrace the limiting belief that underlies this phrase, it can DESTROY your momentum…
The phrase: “I Know That”…

Sometimes even uttering that phrase can turn off your mind’s ability to receive and process new information, which limits your opportunity to gain new understanding and comprehension of a certain subject / topic…

In other words, that phrase can stifle your ability to LEARN – and when you stop learning, you stop growing…

There is a life philosophy that has existed for generations in the Far East region of our world that demonstrates this concept in an easy-to-understand way…

A martial arts Instructor (Sensei) begins pouring a cup of tea for a student who has exhibited a “know-it-all” attitude…

The cup is filled to its brim, but the Instructor continues to pour the tea…

The Student protests: “Sensei, my cup is full – why do you continue to pour?”

The Sensei counters: “Exactly – how can you fit any more tea (knowledge) into your cup (mind) when it is already full?”

Even though there is a lot of common knowledge in the world, each human being is UNIQUE

Each of us – because we have experienced different things at different times and in different combinations – have our own, unique view of the world around us…and what our place / purpose in this world is…

With that said, we all learn differently – the way one person describes a particular concept to you may leave you with even more questions than when you started, while the way in which a different person explains that same concept to you may actually ignite that light bulb above your head…

It may finally make sense!

So seek out as many different forms of knowledge in which you have an interest as possible – keep an open mind – and then come to your own conclusions….

THE COMPOUND EFFECT

I have recently read the book: “The Compound Effect”, which is somewhat of a companion to the book: “The Slight Edge” – both of these manuals speak about the importance of STICKING WITH IT…

It is not any particular action (that you undertake) in and of itself, but rather the REPETITION of that action that is the key to success…

Many times we (human beings) are really good at STARTING things, but not all that great at FINISHING them – once our initial excitement (about the new activity) wears off, it is far too easy to lose focus…

The key is in the compounding effect of consistently performing positive actions – and I stress POSITIVE because, unfortunately, those same compounding effects work just as well when it comes to NEGATIVE actions…

Let’s look at this concept as it relates to something that you and I are familiar with – Diet and Exercise…

Assume that you just started your New Year’s resolution diet & exercise plan 2 weeks ago, but you have not yet seen any visible results – even though your body is actually starting to FEEL better…

At this point it would be relatively easy to quit – I mean, you have been busting your butt for the past 2 weeks and you have no physical improvement to show for it…as a matter of fact, you have actually GAINED a few pounds…?!?!?!?!?!

Well, that phenomenon (the initial weight gain) is to be expected – you have been building a bit of muscle over the past 2 weeks while performing your workout routines, and muscle is HEAVIER than fat…so the trick to not getting immediately discouraged is to NOT judge your short-term results by what the weight scale tells you…

It is at this point where you need to make a crucial decision – keep doing what you are doing…do what you are doing, but with less effort…or QUIT…after all (you ask yourself), if you skip your exercise and diet routine JUST FOR 1 DAY, will that IMMEDIATELY make you fatter and less healthy?

No – of course it won’t – but if you find an excuse to say “NO” to exercise and diet today, it will be that much easier to say “NO” again tomorrow, and even easier to pass up on the next day…and the next…and the next…

And the next thing you know, you are making that same New Year’s resolution this year that you made last year because you quit on yourself…
On the flipside – if you continue to perform your diet and exercise routines on a consistent basis – IN SPITE OF not seeing immediate results – then the Compound Effect will eventually kick in and you WILL meet your fitness goals!

Keep the faith and keep plugging along – for added motivation, you can daily visualize how GREAT you will look and feel once you have met your training goals…and isn’t that a SPECTACULAR feeling?

Post-Election Rant

I have a few topics that I would like to speak out on – because there is CRAZINESS going on around America right now…

POPULAR VOTE VERSUS ELECTORAL VOTE:

Doesn’t everyone remember all of the vote rigging that was PROVEN to be happening before the election, in various states? That alone should call into question any popular vote lead that is currently being reported by the mainstream media…as a matter of fact – if you take into account all of the votes that were counted from Illegal Immigrants and DEAD PEOPLE, as well as the duplicate votes that were submitted by people who voted in more than 1 state – then Donald Trump would EASILY win the Popular Vote, as well!

COLLEGES OFFERING “SAFE SPACES”:

While I concede that everyone has the right to hold non-violent protests, that Freedom of Speech does NOT extend to either destruction of public/private property or to violence against other Americans – including Police Officers…

Colleges offering their students “safe spaces” is utterly ridiculous – these kids are going to have to take charge of this country one day, and right now that is a very scary thought…perhaps it is MY generation’s fault because these are our kids – our intention of giving more to our kids than we, ourselves had when growing up has obviously backfired on us…everything from putting our kids in “time out” to giving EVERYONE a “participation trophy” so that the losers did not feel bad about themselves…has NOT set our kids up for success in what is many times a cold and unforgiving world…?

SANCTUARY CITIES:

Harboring illegal immigrants – especially those who are recurrent criminals – is ILLEGAL in America…aside from that, this is a dangerous and costly practice – dangerous because some of these illegal immigrants are committing crimes (sometimes fatally) against the legal American citizens who live in these cities…costly because the American taxpayers are footing the bill for the financial and medical support of these illegals…since when are illegal immigrants entitled to better treatment and protections than legal American citizens?!?!?!

IMMIGRANT DEPORTATIONS:

Many people are allowing their emotions to drown out what Donald Trump is really saying on this topic:

– Illegal Mexican Immigrants: Donald is immediately concerned with deporting all of the CRIMINAL elements within the immigrant population – some of these criminals have already been deported numerous times, but they always return to America and continue to commit crimes…?! After that, he has said that further deportations will be more closely investigated – he has NOT vowed to rip families apart…he simply desires to make America safer by enforcing the immigration laws that already exist – the same laws that Obama has NOT been enforcing….

– Immigrants from traditionally-terrorist regimes/countries: Donald is seeking a TEMPORARY ban on immigration from countries that have traditionally had ties to terrorist organizations/entities – he has logically suggested this in order to give our American government ample time to figure out the best/safest way forward – he NEVER mentioned any desire to institute any kind of PERMANENT ban on any immigrants…this is similar to an overflowing bathtub in your home – if that happened to you, what is the first thing that you do…? Would you turn off the faucet to stop the in-flow of water BEFORE you try to determine why your tub is overflowing? In essence, we need to temporarily stop the in-flux of these immigrants so that we can determine the best policies/protections to put into place as we move forward

MEDIA:

MOST of the mainstream media outlets (newspapers, websites and TV shows) were PROVEN – before the election – to be COMPLETELY BIASED against Donald Trump…they were not at all fair to Donald during his entire campaign, so why does anyone think that things will be any different now that he is our President-Elect? And with the knowledge that these media outlets will stoop to ANY slanderous level to smear Donald Trump and his movement – how can anyone put ANY faith in anything that the media now says…?!?!?!

OK – enough – it is time for everyone in America to take a breath, calm down, and come together to move our country forward…time to honor the voices of the majority of Americans in our democratic society that have spoken out in support of Donald Trump as our 45th President – just as we do every 4 years in our presidential elections, regardless of WHO the elected candidate happens to be….

TAKE THE RED PILL

I just watched a short clip from one of my favorite (yes, I admit it) movies – “The Matrix”, starring Keanu Reeves

What a thought-provoking movie that truly is!

I don’t mind admitting to you now that I had to see that movie in the theater more than once – I think that by my 3rd viewing, I actually picked up on the underlying concept of machines growing human beings simply to use us as their power source – utilizing a computer program (the matrix) to keep our brains alive and growing…

WHOA

YOU DID IT!

SUCCESS…

We all have our own definition for that word – that concept – what it personally means for each of us…

As such, success can come in many forms – getting your college degree, being a CEO, owning a large house and/or luxury car, achieving Financial FREEDOM…

But what constitutes a good “success formula”?

Well, the possibilities are endless, and here is one that you can start applying right now:

1) Develop a solid PLAN OF ACTION – if you do not know where you are heading and how you are going to get there, then your progress is difficult to track – and you just may end up wasting the best years of your life with stumbling down various paths that NEVER lead you to where you desire to go…

2) Share your STORY – every one of us has a unique story – a lifetime full of happiness, sadness, jubilation, pain…in different combinations and extremes…there is not another person on this planet who shares your exact personality, which is why the world needs you to share YOU with the rest of us!

3) Surround yourself with successful people – SUCCESS, in all actuality, is a TEAM SPORT – none of us could have gotten to the levels of success that we have already achieved by ourselves…

If you are attempting to succeed in a particular endeavor, then it only makes sense for you to seek out the wisdom and experience of those who have gone before you and already achieved success in that particular field…you do NOT have to reinvent the wheel!

4) DON’T QUIT – make no mistake, you WILL run into roadblocks along your path to success – you WILL experience struggles, failures, and frustrations…at times, a sense of overwhelm…
Take heart in the fact that YOU ARE NOT ALONE – many people and resources are always willing and available to help you, if you would simply let go of your ego and realize that you may NOT “know it all”…have a little FAITH…

I want to leave you with an important reflection to ponder…

Think of all of the AMAZING things that you have already accomplished in your life that would not have been possible if you had decided to QUIT early on in the process:
– A Military career
– Landing a lucrative position in a respected company
– Marrying the Love of your Life and raising a beautiful family
– Obtaining your college degree(s)
– Driving
– Playing musical instruments
– Playing sports
– Tying your shoes
– WALKING

Think about it – and don’t be so hard on yourself…

CREATING A SOCIAL STATE

I have been worried about the state of America for quite a while now – I have actually written a book on the subject…

I was sent the following list of information within an email message – Saul Alinsky is the original author, as far as I know, so I give him FULL PROPS for these ideas – I simply want to share them with as many Americans as possible…

ANYONE REMEMBER THE USSR?

“How to Create a Social State”, by Saul Alinsky

There are 8 levels of control that must be obtained before you are able to create a social state. The first is the most important:

1) HEALTHCARE – control healthcare, and you control the people

2) POVERTY – increase the poverty level as high as possible…poor people are easier to control, and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live

3) DEBT – increase the debt to an unsustainable level…that way, you are able to increase taxes and produce more poverty

4) GUN CONTROL – remove the ability of the people to defend themselves from the government…that way, you are able to create a Police State

5) WELFARE – take control of every aspect of their lives (food, housing, income)

6) EDUCATION – take control of what people read and listen to…take control of what children learn in school

7) RELIGION – remove the belief in God from the government and the schools

8) CLASS WARFARE – divide the people into the Wealthy and the Poor…this will cause more discontent, and it will be easier to tax the Wealthy with the support of the Poor

Does any of this sound like what is ALREADY HAPPENING in America?

SCHEDULE THE REST OF YOUR LIFE

All throughout your young life you are forced to follow schedules:
– Waking up in the morning
– Meal times
– Day care / elementary school / junior high school / high school / college
– Paying monthly bills
– Going to bed at night

It isn’t until later in life – once you have completed your school years / military service – that the lack of a structured schedule begins to impact you, and usually in a negative way
No human beings are “hardwired” with self-discipline

So it is no wonder that you would have difficulty with multi-tasking and/or personal schedule efficiency once you become a mature adult, living and working out in the “real world”

Instead of complaining about your hectic life, and just how much time that you do NOT have for getting all of your daily tasks completed, try out this alternate approach:
– Think back to when you were still in school…you remember, 50 minutes of class time, then a 10-minute break, followed by 50 more minutes of class time – on and on, throughout the day…
– This may have seemed dull and repetitive to you at the time, but utilizing that “learning model” actually enabled the school system to squeeze quite a bit of knowledge into your brain in a relatively short period of time – all while keeping the individual class times short enough to prevent you from experiencing “burn-out”…

All you need to do is to apply similar logic to your off-time routine – the hours that are available to you outside of work and sleep (which happen to be different periods of time for each of us, depending on our respective schedules) – the point is for you to create and follow a personal that utilizes those hours in the most efficient way possible…

Break down your available free hours into smaller “chunks” – whether these individual chunks (for you, in order to fit most efficiently within your schedule) are broken down into intervals of 1 hour, 30 minutes, 15 minutes, it does not matter – as long as it works for YOU…

And, of course, the number of activities with which you desire to fill your free time will dictate how many “chunks” you will need to include in your personal schedule…

Sitting down to schedule your daily and nightly activities may seem like a chore at first, but you will quickly get used to it – and you really only need to schedule out 1 day in advance, if you would rather not plan out your entire week and/or month – so it is not that difficult to do…besides, the efficiency that you will gain by scheduling all of your activities will help you to TRACK your time, which can then benefit you with improved efficiency!

All of us have the same 24 hours each day, 168 hours each week, and 8,760 hours each year…it is not the TIME that is available to you but what you DO with that time that truly matters…

RIGHTS THAT AMERICANS DO NOT HAVE

The following message was forwarded to me via email awhile back, and I feel compelled to share it with others:

“We, the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of Justice, avoid more riots, keep our Nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt-free Liberty to ourselves and our great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt-ridden, and delusional. We hold these truths to be self-evident: that a whole lot more people are CONFUSED by the Bill of Rights, and are so dim they require a Bill of NON-Rights.”

ARTICLE I:
You do NOT have the right to a new car, a big-screen TV, or any other form of wealth…more power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II:
You do NOT have the right to never be offended. This country is based on FREEDOM, and that means freedom for EVERYONE, not just YOU…you may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc – but the world is full of dummies, and probably always will be.

ARTICLE III:
You do NOT have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful…do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

ARTICLE IV:
You do NOT have the right to FREE food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help everyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes.

ARTICLE V:
You do NOT have the right to FREE health care…that would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we’re just not interested in public health care.

ARTICLE VI:
You do NOT have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don’t be surprised if the rest of us want to see you get the “Blue Juice”.

ARTICLE VII:
You do NOT have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don’t be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won’t have the right to a big-screen TV, or a life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII:
You do NOT have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you, to make yourself useful.

ARTICLE IX:
You do NOT have the right to Happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over-abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

ARTICLE X:
This is an ENGLISH speaking country…we don’t care WHERE you came from, English is our language – LEARN it!

ARTICLE XI:
You do NOT have the right to change our country’s history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true GOD – and yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all – with no fear of persecution. The phrase “In God We Trust” is part of our heritage and history…too bad if you are uncomfortable with it.

PERSONAL TIMELINE

There are many times in our lives when we get in our own way

We think about the situation too much, which usually PARALYZES us with inaction

One day, though – for seemingly no reason at all – we take action without thinking about it first, and end up achieving the results/successes that we desire…

Then we mentally reflect on the troubles we were having, without understanding exactly WHY…?

The most relatable example from MY past is when I was going through physical rehabilitation during my recovery from a terrible auto accident in July, 1986…

I suffered 4 major injuries, one of which was a compound fracture to my left femur – part of the repair required a metal rod to be inserted into the center of my femur bone (where the marrow normally resides), where it remained for nearly 3 years…

During a particular rehabilitation exercise, I was supposed to lay on the floor on my right side – then, while keeping both legs straight – I was to raise my left leg towards the ceiling, as high as it would go…

I simply could NOT do it – my brain would not communicate with the nerves or muscles in my legs – my leg simply would not move!
This phenomenon continued for at least 3 – 4 therapy sessions…

Then, during my next therapy session, I laid on the ground and immediately raised my left leg up as easily as if it were a feather…?!
WHY was I having so much difficulty with this exercise in my previous sessions?!

Then it hit me – I was “too much in my head” before – paralyzing myself with ideas of “I CAN’T”…

Another way to explain this concept is by using scenes from the movie: “The Matrix, starring Keanu Reeves – those of you who are familiar with the movie can easily recall just how much mental difficulty that Neo (Keanu) had with personally accepting the belief that he was, indeed, “the One” – the Savior of humanity…

Throughout most of the movie, his own mentally-limiting beliefs of “I CAN’T” and/or “that’s impossible” would not allow him to fully realize his own potential…

But once he broke through his mental barriers, he discovered / realized an Inner Power that was UNDENIABLE…

The same is true of YOU – you are a UNIQUE creation possessing within you skills, talents, and abilities that are meant to be expressed and SHARED…

Throw aside your own limiting beliefs, and share your TRUE SELF with the world!
