1) “Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle – sooner or later – get squish, just like grape. Here, karate, same thing. Either you karate do YES or karate do NO – you karate do GUESS SO, squish, just like grape.”
Correlate this mindset to ANY area in life in which you want to achieve success – you should put ALL of your mental and emotional efforts into being the very best person you can be – providing the most value possible, whenever possible…to coin a football phrase, you need to “leave it all out on the field”…because if you just half-heartedly do anything, you will never achieve true success….
2) “Now use head for something other than target.”
You will definitely run into walls – obstacles in your path. Many times YOUR motivation and successes will make others envious because it reminds them of their own un-realized dreams. Remember that your goal is to help yourself achieve success by first helping others – do not make it all about YOU. In the process of helping others, you will develop and acquire skills and techniques that will enable you to easily counter any and all objections that will naturally arise within them – helping them to see possibilities and opportunities that were previously eluding them….
3) DANIEL: “Hey, what kind of belt do you have?” MIYAGI: “Canvas – JC Penney, $3.98 – you like?”
KEEP IT SIMPLE…if you are like me, sometimes it can be easy to feel overwhelmed – there is so much information available out there, and so many “gurus” trying to convince you to invest in their respective systems, that it is hard to know just who to trust. Relax and take a few deep breaths…realize that if you just take things 1 step at a time – and put forth consistent effort in your personal pursuits – you WILL eventually reach whatever level of success that you desire!
4) “Better learn balance – balance is KEY. Balance good, karate good – everything good. Balance bad, better pack up, go home…understand?”
It is VERY important to maintain an equal work/life balance…sometimes when you are seriously focused on achieving success in a particular life pursuit, it is extremely easy to get caught up in all of the minutiae – the “little things” that tend to suck up a majority of your free time, leaving you stressed out and frustrated. Create a daily schedule for yourself to counter this – plan out your days in advance so that you can avoid this common pitfall….
5) “Don’t forget to BREATHE – very important!”
RELAX – none of us are perfect, even though we sometimes put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be…remember that humans are all created in the same likeness, but are each blessed with unique characteristics – each of us will experience forms of fear, joy, sadness, elation, love, loss, depression, exhilaration at different times in our respective lives, and in different combinations. With these differences in mind, concentrating on helping others to the best of your ability can FREE YOU from worrying about what may seem to be your own “imperfections”…Life is truly about GIVING, after all….
